The most common criticism from employers is that job applicants or new employees are simply not ready for the world of work. Even with the right work skills, people often lack the soft skills needed to improve their chances of successful employment. Developed in partnership with Stratford-upon-Avon College, Get Ready for Work will equip you with the skills you need to gain employment and operate effectively in the workplace.

Objectives

Module one – Developing your Skills

This module covers what getting ready for work involves and why it matters. It also includes information on additional and transferable skills and personal qualities, attitude, motivation and knowledge.

Module two – Developing your Personal Qualities

This module explores what kind of personal qualities employers are looking for and how to get them. It includes the importance of correct body language and attitude and there is a section on organisational rules and policies.

Module three – Researching Jobs and Preparing for Interviews

This module details how to look for information about jobs and careers and how to improve your chances of getting a job that’s right for you. It also covers the job application process, as well as how to develop a CV or application form and covering letter.

Module four – Handling Interviews and Different Ways to Work

This module helps you to prepare for job interviews and know what to expect during the interview and afterwards. It includes different ways of working, the importance of experience and keeping in touch with previous contacts.

Module five – Starting Work

This module looks at life after you have joined the workplace. It covers the written and unwritten rules in a workplace, as well as attendance, absence and the importance of punctuality. There is a section on effective team working and communication.
